The Downtown Fairbanks Walking Tour

Visitor Information Center

This Log Cabin was built from Alaskan products in 1959. Spruce logs from the Rosie Creek area were used to build the cabin; the tonge & groove celing, window frames and doors are made or fir; and the counter, interior doors and trim work are constructed from locally grown birch. Sod roofs like this one, were often used when building cabins in Fairbanks because they were good insulation during the long winters and provided a gardening area out of reach of animals during the summers.
