Empress
Theater
The Co-Op Plaza was once the Empress Theater, a cultural
gathering place in Fairbanks. It was believed the concrete
would crumble in the extreme cold of a Fairbanks winter
until 1927 when "Cap" Lathrop built this two-story,
concrete structure. It was used for concerts, civic
events, theatrical productions and as a movie theater
until 1961.
