Cadastral Survey Monument

E Street, Anchorage

A bronze plaque commemorates the original 1915 townsite survey; the etchings depict the first auction of public lands in Anchorage, 1985 street map, an aerial view of Anchorage and the tent city.

The Plaque Reads:

THE 200TH YEAR OF CADASTRAL SURVEYING IN AMERICA
THIS PLAQUE COMMERMORATES THE ORIGINAL TOWNSITE SURVEY
WHICH ESTABLISHED THE INITIAL BOUNDRY OF THE CITY
OF ANCHORAGE. THIS SURVEY WAS ESTABLISHED IN 1915 BY
J. FRANK WARNER & V.H. WILHELM, U.S. SURVEYORS,
EMPLOYED BY THE GENERAL LAND OFFICE OF THE UNITED
