"The
Line"
From 1905 until the mid-1950's the stretch of 4th Ave.
between Barnette and Cushman was a thriving "Red
Light" district. Small cabins were tightly packed
along both sides of the street and the area was surrounded
by a ten foot tall board fence. The fence was built
to protect the delicate sensibilities of women and children,
while the openings on either end provided access to
delivery trucks and "pedestrians."
