Northward
Building
Fairbanks' fist steel girder "skyscraper"
was built from 1950-1952 and is still one of the tallest
buildings in town. The eight-story edifice was Fairbanks'
first apartment building and setting for Edna Ferbers'
novel, Ice Palace, about Alaskans striving for
statehood in the 1950's.
